Irina Favero-Longo

Irina Favero-Longo (Paris, 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Brussels. Her favourite subject is the relationship that bodies have with space, which she explores through video, sculpture and performance. How does the body adapt to its environment? How does it absorb or resist it? To what extent is the body and its history conditioned by the architecture it inhabits, or the urban space that surrounds it? She pushes the boundaries between public and private, questioning the behaviour of bodies "inside and outside a frame".

In her video La Niche, Irina invites volonteers to confront their relationship with architecture by abandoning their subconscious to explore the sensual and sensitive, within walls and defined spaces. By its very nature, La Niche allows for the abandonment of behavioural habits. It is sincere and uninhibited, blurring both space and time, violating social distancing barriers. In the architecture and functional objects of the home, Irina reinvents the intimate, the emotional and the personal. Commonly overlooked hooks and household utensils are transformed into delicate, subjectively coloured ceramics. No longer functional, they are sculptures in an exhibition, and so Irina, through humour and absurdity, brings poetry into the mundane. Thus, the artist takes nothing for granted and perpetually rediscovers the things of this world.
