Nine Perris

Nine Perris (Roquefort-des-Corbières, France, 1999) lives and works in Brussels. She graduated with a DNA from ISDAT in Toulouse in 2021, then with a master's degree from the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels in 2023.

Originally from the countryside, Nine Perris comes from a small village in the south of France, Roquefort-des-Corbières. In this environment, she developed a keen sense of observation and a singular way of approaching places, experiencing spaces and imagining territories. When she arrived in Brussels, she was confronted with the urban landscape, and her work stems from this duality between rural and urban. It is also nourished by social and environmental issues, as well as by architectural and urban planning norms. But above all, her work is a gaze cast upon a space, a narrative that builds within a given environment. From this in-between, between city and countryside, the artist has developed a particular sensitivity to the ways of building, inhabiting and inscribing oneself in a landscape or a volume. For her, architecture is conceived as a light, almost elusive object in perpetual evolution.

Her installations question the notions of threshold, passage, structure, transparency and visibility. Within the realm of the Living, she questions the body of the builder and that of the inhabitant, offering a polysemy of meanings. Her installations as a whole resemble a journey in which light, materials and voids offer multiple connections. The pieces respond to one another, overlap, and establish a silent conversation made of echoes, tensions and balances. They address temporality and displacement while questioning the environmental norms at play in the transformation of landscapes. In this way, forms, matter, materials and their functions become fragments of stories.

Nine Perris constantly manipulates these fragments. She appropriates architectural components which, once extracted from their context, become part of a new spatial narrative. Her gesture sometimes emphasizes an angle, a light or a collapse; elsewhere it reveals an imprint, a void, or a fragile tension between stability and imbalance. She draws directly in space: lines stretch, the void thickens and light becomes a boundary. Her work remains intrinsically modular and reversible, recomposing itself according to the places that host it. Along the way, she roams the spaces from which she draws, retaining and accumulating the fragments of a research in motion.
